Lately

Well, well.  Life goes on.  I have switched to Facebook, but mostly I am not blogging anything, as I've been crazy busy.  Lots of workers have left the ministry, and Hannah and I have been swamped.  Right up to August 13, when I was summarily dismissed(as Judah R would say!!).  Seems my view of family jurisdiction is different from my boss, and he seems to hold the high card.  "My way or the highway", says he.  What's so crazy is I have bent over backward to be a nice little employee(I thought), ignoring real and perceived slights and doing my best to follow many contradictory orders, trying to protect the flock of the employees from too vigorous oversight and personal scrutiny, allowing my home to be a sanctuary from the pressure cooker of the daily grind.  Ok,  this is a bit over-hyped perhaps, but our family really has tried to reach out to many, and befriend many.  I always thought this was our Christian duty, and we enjoyed it besides, but I guess some see it as interference and a hinderance to real spiritual growth.  Am I bitter??  Not really,  I just don't see where our family has done wrong.  Our work was good....nobody has said anything negative about our work....just so you know.  Even the big boss says we done good on that point.   So my friends....we will be leaving the ministry soon.  Don't know what road we will travel on yet...we do love the mountains!  And we want to go with God....that's all we know.    I will be posting a more detailed account of this sundering on my facebook, so if you want details go there.  I will do my best to be fair.

So let me say publically, its been a great 6 years at HQ.  All you people I have worked with made it wonderful.  And we will ALWAYS treasure your friendship.  Christian friendship is a slice of Heaven here on earth...."you give marvelous comrades to me," says the Psalmist.  Tis true indeed.   Know that wherever we end up, our door is open to each of you.  "And now may the God of peace santify your hearts...."      mr k

Well, well.   Naomi in Taiwan...Luke and Hannah going there in 10 days....what is it about Taiwan?  Must be love!!
So..love makes the world go round, and I guess for my family it makes a person go round the world!!   ha

We are well.  Very busy with the ministry....too busy.  Its tough to pull together for Bible reading...any other families finding that as well?? someone is always gone.  My Mom turned 79 Saturday.  She is a great lady..still very active, sings and plays the piano, discusses ideas...not alot of people talk about ideas.
Church is slowly becoming more of our lives....music, teaching, eldering, nursery, cleaning...gotta learn to say no.
Went to Tucson last week...very sunny...Bonnie and I did some mountain and desert hiking...beautiful.  Bonnie did a face plant on the trail but only picked up a few cactus needles.  ...beautiful mts. around there.

That's it.     dave

Good to Great

Well friends....another year is drawing to a close and its been a pretty great year in some respects and pretty bad in others.  We continue to be honored to have many great friends and co-workers around the world.  I still say the best part of working where we do is that we get to work with so many great people.  God is very good.
One of the sad things is that so many of them move on...this year the Pierponts, the Pallocks, the Novotnys, the Bergens,  the Swansons, etc. and MANY single staff, some of whom I see as part of our family....you know who you are!!  We enjoy the work, for the most part, because we see it as touching lives around the globe.  The difficulty comes in the daily ups and downs of decisions that are made and people that are affected by those decisions. Travel, and ministry opps. continue to give us variety and extra enjoyment.
The Kallbergs basically run the music at our church now and recently they asked me to be an Elder...so lots of energy and responsibility there.  We now have 4 kids who are adults in the house....hard to believe.  Life changes, and for us it has been mostly good.  Luke now engaged and a wedding in 2008.  It was easier than I thought it would be....he did all the work !!  hehe
So...we will keep pressing on in the new year, doing what we do, trusting God to direct our steps and giving us boldness to spread His truth.  Pray for us as you think of us.   Happy New Year friends!!

News

Well...when Luke was 15, I encouraged him to commit the next 10 years to ministry and give up his right to have a girlfriend or a job or an education during that time. After that, I would help him in any way I could to get education, get a woman, get a house, whatever..even help him elope, if necessary.  So now he has done that...the 10 years....even an extra year, and done very well.  And God has brought him a great woman...Karen Chen.  They became engaged 3 days ago in Taipei ,Taiwan.  As Ted Pallock would say:  "its a beautiful thing".    Luke is very smitten, and it is not clear how they will manage in the meantime to be apart....hehe.  So go to Doctor Luke at xanga and wish him well.

Life has a way....

Been a while.   We travelled to the Rockies and spent 18 days driving, camping, visiting, and sightseeing.  I was fighting West Nile virus and so was not at my best...lots of Advil.  Actually, still recovering.  Came back to a host of issues here at HQ...still sorting them out 3 weeks later.

My latest opinion is:  "IF you can't enjoy the work, enjoy the associations(the people).  Actually, this is the best job I've ever had(great co-workers, hard work, lot's of problems that challenge me, good Ministry, daily opportunities to encourage and help my co-workers)....not to say my life is trouble free.  I really dislike living in the big city, don't like the house we live in, am frustrated by the pressure of millions of people living in close proximity, and I long for the western mountains and clean air.  But...the work, and being able to work with my kids is a rare opportunity so that I have to be willing to give up the other stuff.
As long as Hannah keeps coming to work...I better too,  cause its not her nitche and yet she hangs in there for me.  Hannah....I love you very much!!!!  Naomi and Luke are making great sacrifices to stay at home and be involved with the Ministry...but they enjoy it...with Hannah, its a complete higher level of sacrifice and laying aside of her artistic talents and dreams.
Luke is on the way to a new life, be it fast or slow, we do not know....I hope fast.  He also is now selling his music CD..."Joining ATI"   Check his Xanga site...Dr Luke.
I have an empty house in Casper...Know of anyone needing a place to rent??
Very busy this fall and there will be no letup...I am now in charge of music at our church and leading the Praise Team on Sundays...I enjoy it.....but we need a permanent Piano player.
Thank you God for life, and your presence in my family and for good friends
